Beef recalled in 10 States after Contamination Issue

Beef recalled in 10 States after Contamination IssueIn about 10 states, 14,158 pounds of ground beef has been recalled due to possible deadly contamination of E. coli bacteria.

In Arkansas City, Kansas, Creekstone Farms Premium Beef is located and this is where the ground beef came from. Various wholesalers in Arizona, Iowa, California, Ohio, Georgia, Indiana, North Carolina, Missouri, Washington and Pennsylvania got the quantity distributed in 40- and 60-lb. cases.

Under various brand names the beef was sold after repackaging into consumer-size packages.

All the retail outlets that sold the beef are being tracked by the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service, FSIS. As of now only in Missouri about 28 specific outlets have been identified. Stores like Price Cutter, Ramey, Country Market, Murfin, Mike's Market, Smitty, and Bistro Market stores were sold to have been selling the beef.

Routine testing was being done and at one of the wholesalers the E. coli was detected.

E. coli O157:H7 is the specific bacteria detected in the beef. The bug is supposed to be dangerous and problems like kidney failure, diarrhea and dehydration can be caused by it.
