Cancer will be fought by funds generated by USM students as plans are on to organize a Relay for Life event.
At the field house on the Gorham campus, at least one member of the teams that camp out overnight will walk around the track at all times even during the night.
T.J. Williams, the USM Relay for Life chair said, “Every one of us has been touched by cancer in some way, a family member, friend, roommate, professor, or you personally may be a cancer survivor.”
It was in 1985 that the Relay for Life was started in. It happened when $27,000 to support the American Cancer Society were raised by colorectical surgeon Dr. Gordy Klatt after he completed a 24-hour walk around a track in Tacoma, WA.
Other places where the event will take place in will be Colby, Bodoin, University of Maine at Machias, Farmington and Orono.
It is being stated that to conduct such an event a lot of planning is needed and all those who wish to be a part of this like teams, volunteers and more can contact in early March. Teams will comprise 10 to 15 people, according to the ACS.
