Prostate cancer risk more in men who have hair loss

Prostate cancer risk more in men who have hair loss A study has stated that there are two times chances of men showing signs of male pattern baldness at the age of 20 and getting affected with prostate cancer.

There have been studies that have established a link between prostate cancer and balding but for the first time it has been seen that men who go bald at the age of 20 years have chances of getting affected with prostate cancer in later stages of life.

Balding is caused when testosterone gets converted to androgenic hormones and androgens have been linked to the onset and growth of prostate cancer.

Baldness is treated with a drug called finasteride as it stops the testosterone getting converted to androgens and prostate cancer incidences are also lowered by this drug.

About 388 men were analyzed for about two years by researchers for their hair loss pattern.

Men were 46 and 84 years of age when they were analyzed. They were asked about balding pattern and history of prostate cancer.

About 281 healthy men more were taken for the study who were healthy. Hair loss at the age of 20 years was experienced by 37 of the prostate cancer patients.
