A recent study has revealed that energy drinks have no medicinal benefits for young people. A group of doctors of the University of Miami have found that 30-50% of the children and youngsters consume energy drinks which contains understudied and unregulated ingredients.
Energy drinks like Red Bull, Rock Star and Monster contain stimulants like caffeine and herbal supplements which are marketed as energy boosters.
Mary Claire O’Brien, MD, an Associate Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N. C. says that, “Children and adolescents are more susceptible to the adverse health effects of caffeine compared to adults”.
According to a report, energy drinks contain high and unregulated amounts of caffeine. The high level of caffeine has been found to be associated with and have been associated with seizures, diabetes, cardiac abnormalities, and mood and behavioral disorders. The manufacturers of the drinks say that the amount of caffeine in these energy drinks is comparable to a cup of coffee.
Most of the researchers say that parents may relate energy drinks with soda or sports drinks but in reality, they are very different.
