Giving blood makes you feel good

Giving blood makes you feel goodA note of thanks was sent to people who donated O negative blood recently by the NHS Blood and Transplant or the NHSBT. Not everyone does this and the note definitely raised the moral of those who donated.

O negative is universal blood group and everyone can take this blood that makes it high in demand.

An urgent appeal for O negative blood group holders was sent by the NHSBT before Christmas but bad weather played spoilt sport and many people could not come in for donating blood and it also led to sessions of some donors being canceled that made stocks low.

On December 20, there were footage on news channels showing people donating blood despite the appalling weather and this made several donors get out of their homes to donate blood.

Assistant director of blood donation Jon Latham said, "In the days after the broadcast we had record numbers of O negative donors turning up at our sessions across the country. We would like to thank everyone who gave blood when the weather was bad.”

He also added that people who donate are relied on for maintaining a regular supply of blood to various hospitals.

Since 2000, highest units of blood in a single day were collected of the O negative blood group and the units were 1,119 units on December 21.
