Recently a top diabetes expert has warned about the increasing number of patients. In UAE there are near about 425,000 people who are above the age of 20 years and they are suffering from diabetes, whereas more 500,000 people are in pre-diabetes stage as stated by him.
Chairman of Emirates Diabetes Society (EDS), Dr Abdulrazzaq Al Madani has announced an educational programme for non-physician diabetes healthcare professionals. These programmes will commence in May with workshops and training programmes on therapy and nutrition for patients having diabetes. He has revealed that in the UAE there are around one million people who either have diabetes or are in danger to develop diabetes in their future.
He has pointed that the six GCC countries are among the top 10 countries with occurrence of diabetes, while the UAE is the second highest in the world with prevalence rate as high as 19.5 per cent.
Though there has been a great boon of innovative and highly effective treatments, the huge hike in the number of diabetes patients has become one of the serious concerns in the whole country.
