Scientists crack prostate cancer's genetic code

prostate-cancerAmong British men the most common form of cancer is prostate tumors and the genetic secrets of these have been unlocked by scientists that can lead to saving a lot of lives.

Every year about 35,000 men get affected from this cancer and 10,000 men die and these findings can transform the treatment of this disease.

Mutation charts can be with the patients with these findings and precise flaws behind the illness can easily be mapped with it therefore, giving an indication that how can they be treated.

Dr Mike Berger, the U. S. study’s lead author, said, “This is a transforming moment in understanding the underlying biology of prostate cancer.”

In an attempt to figure out the defects behind the cancer, in seven patients, the complete DNA of cancerous prostate tumors was decoded by Harvard Medical School researchers and then in healthy people who had healthy tissue, the genetic sequences were compared.

In its DNA, about 5,900 small spelling mistakes were there in each tumor. But in skin and lung cancer, it is even more.

It was also seen that DNA sequence’s whole paragraph was not in order and scientists were even more interested by this.

New hope can be there for prostate cancer patients as drugs that can treat some of these genes are getting developed.
