Dense fog disrupts schedule of 200 flights at IGI

fog-igiYet again dense fog envelopes Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi and air operations have almost being halted. The fog caused interruption for the schedule of over 20 flights and leading to the diversion of two flights. Visibility dropped to 50 metres below the actual minimum limit of 125 metres as a result most of the flights scheduled to depart early morning were held up.

A Spicejet flight was diverted to Jaipur to be arrived from Mumbai to Delhi and in another case, a Jet Airways flight from Abu Dhabi was diverted to Mumbai. According to an IGI official no take offs were possible delaying the schedule of over 20 flights as the visibility wandered between 75 to 100 metres.

Low visibility procedures were implemented on third runway at 3.32 a. m. as the fog was too dense, which was initially observed at around 3 a. m. Furthermore, at the main runway, visibility deteriorated at around 5.30 a. m. compelling the authorities to implement low visibility procedures at 5.45 a. m. on the main runway.
