To remove imbalance in demographic, UAE to draft a population policy

Sheikh-Saif-bin-ZayedUAE's minister of interior said while talking to FNC that the government is on the verge of drafting a population strategy. And the main objective of the same is to balance the number of Emiratis within the country.

Head of Federal Demographic Council, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed said that they need a strategy to be able to control the demographic imbalance within the country and that the new strategy that would soon be changed into policy, is almost done.

The issue of population was first raised by Sultan al Suwaidi, a member from Dubai and pointed out the imbalances. He also asked Sheikh Saif to appear before the council and discuss about the current set up and look for ways to control the gaps. He said the situation is such that the Emiratis are in a minority within the country.

In his paper, he also said that there are fears of expatriates asking for political rights since they had been living in the country for long. The cost of expatriate labour has reached Dh55 billion a year and represents close to 20 per cent of the total labor costs.
