The cases of hijacking and hostage-taking are being handled by Stansted which is the capital's pre-designated airport. The instant help given by the RAF jets allows for a plane to be rescued. This is done as it is feared that it might be used as a flying bomb.

The passengers had thought that there was a spate when the aircraft broke through the clouds. Later on someone exclaimed that it was Stansted rather than Heathrow.
