Taxi drivers protest against pay cuts

Tawasul-taxi-driversA lot of Tawasul drivers numbering to some hundreds refused to work on 2nd January this year. They were assured to sign a fresh agreement according to which the monthly target revenue expectations would be raised while their commissions would be decreased.

According to a Sri Lankan driver, almost all 1,000 employees said that they will not work.

Following the contacting of the Abu Dhabi Police by the management of Tawasul company after the drivers refused to start their regular shifts, the police went to the drivers' accommodation situated in Musaffah and enquired that a few of them came to the police station for looking into the situation.

According to a police official, the matter was to be dealt by the Ministry of Labor.

Meanwhile, when the police station was approached yesterday, the Tawasul officials rejected giving any kind of comment.

The drivers on the other hand revealed that they had arranged a trip to the labor court today morning for presenting their case.

According to drivers, they have been working on 16- to 19-hour work shifts for meeting the earlier quotas.
