Dubai Multi commodities Centre made a huge announcement on a very important issue that is been discussed on the world platform for quite some time now. It said that UAE will be joining in for the ban on the trade of `blood' diamonds that belong to the Marange fields from Zimbabwe.
The UN had taken an initiative to ban diamonds from that region, which is better known as Kimberly process has now been signed by Dubai. The initiative is to ban trade of rough diamonds and prevent the use of them to finance conflict.
Dubai has now joined the league of UK, US, India and Australia that is in support of this UN backed Kimberly process.
The region of Marange that is located in eastern Zimbabwe has one of the highest diamond concentrations of the world. The Mugabe government in 2006 seized the field from African Consolidation Resources a mining venture.
It is reported that the region has a ratio of more than 1,000 carat per hundred tons which is roughly 8 times higher than its competitors.
