Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif, who has been through a bad patch professionally, after he failed a dope test during the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) inaugural season, is desperately looking for a place back in the national squad. The sportsman, in order to achieve so, has flaunted his form and fitness in a low-profile match, which really impressed chief selector Iqbal Qasim.
Asif gave a satisfactory performance during a match between youngsters attending an Under-23 Emerging Players Camp, which was witnessed by Qasim along with other member of the selection committee, Saleem Jaffer.
Qasim said that Asif looked pretty fine, as he took a wicket, gave away only 23 runs in his nine-over spell in the match.
Though Qasim said Asif would be considered for the Champions Trophy, it will be only after holding talks with the captain and the coach that the final decision in this regard will be taken.
Qasim said: “The final decision about the composition will be taken by the committee after we weigh all our options. We want to discuss each and every detail with the captain and the coach before taking a final decision on the Champions Trophy squad.”
Asif, who is presently 26 years old, is looking for a place in Pakistani team after serving a one-year ban imposed by the PCB.
It should be noted that the left-handed seamer has already been included by the PCB in the preliminary list of 30 probables for the Champions Trophy.
