The Department of Transport (DoT) has said that a new intelligent road system is going to be applied in Abu Dhabi. And in it there are going to be features like Dynamic Messaging Signs (DMS) along with closed circuit TV cameras.

It is going to be called the Integrated Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). And in the future the system is going to see addition of features like dynamic en-route car navigation, web and mobile phone information services besides other traffic management services.

The key aim behind the system is to increase safety aspects basically on the highways of metropolitan areas. Weather, speed advisories and parking details are the other popular services that are going to be added.

Rural routes are also going to be included in the list. And for getting its results, the ITS is going to use the latest means of communications and IT. The growing needs of the consumers are going to be the main consideration for the system. In general the whole system has been divided into 6 packages- Regional Active Traffic Management and Information (ATM), Urban Traffic Optimisation Management and Information, Public Transport Management and Information, Road Works Management and Information, Freight Management, and Integrated Operations.
