The Arab leaders are taking steps to protect the most important resource, water. They are taking vital steps to protect their water supply systems from most possible sabotage by Al Qaeda militants or attack from any other extremist. Abu Dhabi in this situation is not willing to take any chance at all.
By the start of October the wealthiest emirate of the United Arab Emirates launched a pilot project for the largest underground reservoir of 26 million cubic meters of desalinated water. Other official says they aim to protect water from oil spills or factory breakdown.
Reports says that this underground reservoir is so vital that Abu Dhabi would have to face water discrimination and could only last for 4 days if any of these plants is damaged. The diminishing of natural ground water is a vital threat to gulf Arab states.
Mr. Hady Amr clearly mentioned that the desalination plant is a large factory running on a cost, and it is something which can be easily blown up by a bomb or missile.
The developers of this aquifer stated that Iran and Iraq have rivers as a support for water supply but other gulf states don't.
