UAE may allow for Skype

SkypeThe telecom regulatory body of UAE is looking for ways through which services of Skype can be made available in the country. This information was given by Mohamed Al Ghanim, Director-General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), who is said to be very interested in the development.

Al Ghanim was talking to media during a forum organized by the Customer Advisory Board (CAB) which was taking place in Dubai. The event was done with an aim to address and also discuss key issues pertaining to expectations and problem of the customers.

When asked why such a service is needed, he said that the world today has taken up IP addresses like it did never before. Now there is Internet telephony, but the fact is that only UAE's telecom companies are allowed to offer VoIP services and that means that there is lack of competition.

This also means, he further added, that if any customer has any problem with any telecom company then there is no way that the regulator can intervene. That is why there is a need to bring in international players like Skype.
