Breast cancer is the most common cause of death in women. Breast cancer awareness month is dedicated in spreading awareness amongst women regarding its early detection and cure.
A breast cancer awareness conference was organized at Sabah Health Area, by the Islamic Association for Medical Sciences (IAMS). At the occasion Dr Abdul Rahman Al Awadi, Head of the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences, explained that breast cancer is a leading cause of death that has swept a large number of women worldwide. Therefore, it early detection is significant because it can help in curing the cancer in the early stages.
"A new and more aggressive approach to detecting and fighting this disease is indeed taking hold. The mammogram is one of the leading diagnostic tools used to detect breast cancer", said Dr. Al-Awadi. He urged women to take an annual test in order to avoid delayed treatment.
He stressed that self- examination is crucial and every woman should be a part of this prevention campaign that spreads the awareness amongst ignorant women.
Dr Yousef Al-Nisf, the Health Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health explained that early detection helps in curing the disease at an early stage.
A number of women were awarded at the conference for their huge contribution in spreading awareness.
