A campaign will be kicked-off in Wales to increase the awareness about diabetes among people today. The initiative will basically involve the education of people regarding diabetes and to also inform people about the misconceptions they might have about the condition.
The initiative has been undertaken by Diabetes UK Cymru, the group will be sending out postcards to ever GP surgery and pharmacy. The mailed postcards will include five facts about diabetes that will inform people about the seriousness of the condition.
The organization will be posting 50,000 postcards, which will roughly cover each undiagnosed case of the condition in Wales.
The National Director of Diabetes UK Cymru, Dai Williams, while talking about the initiative stated that 5% people residing in Wales were suffering from diabetes. He added that it is sad to see that a number of children are bullied in school for suffering from Type 1 diabetes, which is not at all related to being fat or obese.
Mr. Williams further informed that people can live with an undiagnosed case of diabetes for as long as a decade. The program has been executed to particularly reach the undiagnosed cases of diabetes to reduce the damage being caused by this condition to people.
