Museums trying to give a new Arab identity

colossal-museumsThe barren island which is located on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi has seen many workers digging the ground to lay the foundations for the three colossal museums.

It is to be mentioned here that it will be the $800 million Frank Gehry-designed branch of the Guggenheim 12 times the size of its New York flagship. Apart from that, it will be the half-billion-dollar outpost of the Louvre by Jean Nouvel.

Moreover, the fact that it, will also be a showcase for national history by Foster & Partners are planning to give a new Arab identity in the coming times. It is situated nearly 200 miles across the Persian Gulf, Doha, the capital of Qatar. It may be noted here that Qatar has been mapping out its own extravagant cultural vision.

For the record, at the pace at which museums are currently being built in the region, it is believed that it will give a new identity to the region and will be a big factor in attracting tourists to the region.

While Doha's vision seems to be more balanced as it has tried to maintain a balance between the modernization and Islamic culture, it is expected that leaders will see construction sprees as part of sweeping efforts in both these regions.
