As Eid Al Adha festivities started off, no major hitch has been witnessed in Dubai so far with only four motor traffic accidents taking place since Monday. There have been no deaths recorded as of now.
One of the accidents saw an omni-bus with eight passengers on board overturned on Al Ain Road in Dubai. Two people were injured; one sustaining serious injuries, and another getting just moderate injuries.
Two of the four recorded traffic accidents were collision cases while the other two cases were of the vehicles flipping over. Fortunately, there have been no casualties recorded.
The highest number of traffic accidents during Eid Al Adha was recorded in 2007, with a little more than 1,600 cases and five casualties. In 2009, four people lost their lives to two separate accidents during Eid Al Fitr vacation.
But ever since, the number of cases have been have been going down year after year. This improvement is being attributed to the patrolling strategies of the Police.
The Deputy Director of Traffic Police, Saif Mohair Al Mazroui said the common causes of accidents, particularly among the youth was due to speeding, tail-gating and lane violations.
