Smoke alarm use to increase by Fire Service record

Smoke alarmTo save lives in homes across the region, West Midlands Fire Service is using the power of R n' B music for doing so.

In the West Midlands in homes without a smoke alarm either fitted or working, there are nearly 4,000 household fires every year.

A record has been produced which has been written by one of its firefighters in the battle to increase awareness and save lives.

The Fire Service offers home fire checks free of charge.

After looking at the cost of more traditional methods of spreading the word the decision to make a record with the message was taken.

Chief Fire Officer for West Midlands Fire Service Adam Harper said, "For us to print 10,000 leaflets will cost us £10,000, it was cheaper for us to produced this whole song. In these times where we're facing cuts, we have to think outside the box."

In the writing process of the song Corey Campbell who works as a firefighter with the service was delighted to get involved.

Clarita who is the Community Advocate of fire service and is Corey's mother said that an important role will be played by the song as the public will get aware about how important it is to have smoke alarms.

She also added that it is important for people to know that fire alarms are very important for heir homes.
