Though, Blacks might be suffering from a greater deficiency of vitamin D, a recent study has found that they happen to be least affected from the deficiency of the vitamin, in contrast to white people. The research has reached the conclusion, that the lack of vitamin D is more likely to prove fatal for Whites in comparison to Blacks.
The survey was conducted by Dr. Erin Michos and colleagues at the John Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore. The number of people, who participated in the study, amounted to 7,981 comprising of both, Black and White adults.
The participants in the study were followed for a period of 14 years and the study was conducted from 1988 to 1994. It was found in the survey that out of all the people, 6.6% people among Whites while, 32.3% people among Blacks were suffering from the lack of vitamin D.
However, during the study, there were 116 White people, while 60 Black people, who died of a stroke, which means that despite there were a lesser number of Whites suffering from the deficiency of vitamin D, still, the number of people dying from strokes was greater among Whites.
However, Dr. Michos was quick to point out that Blacks were still at a 65% increased risk of suffering a stroke, which could be because of diabetes and hypertension as well. The research has shed a lot of light on the affect of the deficiency of vitamin D on Blacks.
