At Nelson, rescue helicopter save a lifeJarrod Colbourne, Summit rescue helicopter said today that they have rescued a French woman tramper, who has lost the way and suffered a knee injury on the steep alpine terrain.

After she activated an emergency beacon, she was rescued in Nelson's Kahurangi National Park. The spokesman further said that they got the information from Rescue Co-ordination Centre (RCC).

After getting information from the RCC, that an emergency beacon has been activated in the park near Anatoki Peak and getting the GPS position, they flew a rescue helicopter with a Nelson police rescue and search officer and a St John Advanced paramedic to the required spot.

The spokesman added that the rescue helicopter searched the area for 10 minutes before they a spotted a French woman.

The French tourist, who was 22 years old signaled by using an emergency blanket from the top of the rock. She was suffering from a knee injury and was taken a hospital after being rescued by the helicopter. The tourist was taking the trip alone. She had lost the way and going down to follow the river.
