French President Nicolas Sarkozy is extremely angry with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for taking back his participation in the Paris summit which will also have the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Ha'aretz.
In a telephonic conversation 10 days ago, Sarkouzy had asked Netanyahu to increase the duration of the construction moratorium in the settlements in West Bank in order to continue the peace talks with Palestine.
The French President had invited Netanyahu and Abbas formally in September hoping to bring the two sides together for solving the building freeze dispute. This dispute has brought the talks to an impasse.
Both Netanyahu and Abbas had accepted the invitation to the summit which was held on 21st October, but Netanyahu cancelled it at the last moment.
According to European diplomats, Sarkozy was so enraged at Netanyahu that the other European leaders were told everything about their telephone conversation.
Apparently, the Israeli PM withdrew from the event after realizing that the Obama administration considered it as a positive event. According to diplomats, Netanyahu cancelled his participation to avoid the enormous pressure would fall over him regarding the settlements issue.
