A shocking report states that an Israeli patient has been diagnosed with a "superbug" which has proven resistant to antibiotics.
It was further added that the 50-year-old woman met a traffic accident in India and hospitalized in New Delhi for five days before being shifted to Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer. There she was found to have intestinal bacteria which comprises of enzymes of New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase-1, better known as NDM-1.
The enzyme is found in different types of intestinal bacteria, breaks down antibiotics, thereby rendering the carrier bacteria immune to them.
The woman was at once quarantined to stop her from infecting anyone else. Sheba further tested the employees at the hospital and didn't find any complains with rest of the lot.
Hospital authorities have said that they soon be releasing the patient in few days, once the bug has left off the system.
Two months early the Health Ministry asked all health care units to test all those who underwent all types of medical treatment in India since 2008 for NDM-1. The order was released due the bug which further was visible in case of most of the other Western countries in recent months.
