Sperm quality affected by dietary fat

Sperm quality affected by dietary fatA new study by Harvard researchers suggests that sperm of men who eat a lot of saturated fats that exist in fries and burgers may be harmed.

Research states that fewer and less active sperm might be getting produced in men who eat a lot of these types of fats that is commonly found in fried junk food.

The study also stated that men who eat healthy fat like omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that are found in grains and fish might be able to produce healthy sperm.

Lead researcher Dr. Jill Attaman, an instructor in obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive biology said, "We observed significant relationships between dietary fat and semen quality. This shows an association between modifiable lifestyle factors, specifically nutrition, and male fertility potential."

Attaman added that what is behind the apparent connection ca not be figured out but, she added, different types of fats are treated differently in the body.

She said that an important component of sperm cell membrane is polyunsaturated fats and the ability of a sperm to fertilize an egg is also influenced and other possibility is that hormone production can also be stimulated.
