According to vigilance Court PJ Thomas is still an accused

According to vigilance Court PJ Thomas is still an accusedAlthough PJ Thomas, the newly appointed Central Vigilance Commissioner got a clean cheat from the Center regarding the 2G scam but another new corruption case has fallen over his shoulder which is haunting him.

According to the documents held by NDTV it is evident that there are charges against seven persons and PJ Thomas regarding the 2G scam which are still in place, although the case got a stay order from the Supreme Court.

In a response to the questions raised by RTI, special Vigilance Court in Thiruvananthapuram stated that it has not nullified charges against any person accused in the Palmolein case. It also pointed out that in the group of accused Thomas is included.

The Palmolein case is connected with the order that had been given to a Malaysian company for importing edible oil which saw a loss of two decimal eight crores of rupees by the exchequer due to irregularities shown by the company.

PJ Thomas was the erstwhile food secretary in the Kerelian Government at that point in time. The vigilance court further went on to say that even now Thomas is an accused who is on bail.

The government all along tried to defend Thomas from attacks posed by the opposition and said that Thomas has been pardoned from the Palmolein case. But since the vigilance court has come up saying that there still remains a charge brought against the CVC in the Palmolein case, the Centre will be forced to do a lot of answering.

The hearing of the Palmolein case which is eighteen years old has been postponed to October 23 from last Saturday as the Supreme Court is yet to vacate its stay order on the hearing of that case which was given in 2008.
