Fed's environmental record trashed by report

Gord MillerThe topics that can be found in this year's annual report by Environmental Commissioner Gord Miller who believes the government is not keeping its environmental promises are poor sewage treatment, forgotten landfills, saving the caribou and not enough trees being planted.

According to Miller, the government is not making enough efforts that is making it unable to follow through on any of its environmental promises.

The environment is being threatened that by which environmental policies are being undermined by a number of cases of an inactive government.

Climate change was one of the many concerns in the Environmental Commissioner's report.

Miller said, "Due to our latitude, global warming is occurring faster in Ontario than in the global average; while the average temperature around the world went up 0.75º Celsius in the past century, average temperatures in south-central Canada increased by an average of 1.2º Celsius.”

Greater increases are being experienced by Northern Ontario.

Miller added that sewage treatments that are not good enough are the cause of the deteriorating water quality.

More is needed if the water quality has to be improved, Miller added.
