Iowa egg farm data is disturbing

Iowa egg farm data is disturbingAccording to records obtained by Congressional investigators, evidence of problems that exceeded vermin and filth was with Wright County Egg, as reported by the Food and Drug Administration last month, but it decided to ignore its won evidence.

About 1519 people were sickened that led to 550 million eggs getting recalled by Wright County, the company at the center of the outbreak. Reports also stated that the plant had done multiple positive tests for salmonella but the results were not reported.

About 426 positive salmonella results were received by Wright County Egg by 2008 and these also included 73 samples that were potentially positive for the strain involved in this summer's outbreak called salmonella enteritidis. No reports state that state, federal or local officials were informed about this.

Caroline Smith DeWaal, food safety director with the Center for Science in the Public Interest said, "The company had clear evidence that their flocks were infected long before the outbreak occurred. It isn't the first time a company involved in an outbreak ignored its own test results and legislation pending before the Senate is enacted and FDA takes its role of inspecting food facilities far more seriously."
