Statins may block arthritis

Statins may block arthritis It was reported by a recent study that the chances of developing rheumatoid arthritis would be lowered by 40 per cent with cholesterol-lowering statin drugs.

An Israeli study confirms this for which the study tried to establish a link between the regularity of patients' use of statins and their related chances of developing the painful joint problem.

As compared to those who took the most statins, the most infrequent users of statins had around double the risk of rheumatoid arthritis. The researchers stated that this study also has some limitations.

Something that was figured out as an important shortcoming was that lifestyle factors and medical factors could not be taken into account as these may influence the result.

There is a need to conduct controlled trials to state that whether the risk of arthritis was actually reduced by statins.

It should be noted that people who are not on prescribed statins should not take them to avoid rheumatoid arthritis. And those are at it should stick to the prescribed dose.

Tel Aviv University and other medical and academic centres in Israel carried out the reserach.
