Vitamin B can battle brain shrinkage

Vitamin B can battle brain shrinkageBrain shrinkage is a part of memory loss and it happens among the elderly in dementia and it has been stated by a research that larges doses of the vitamin B could help halve the rate of brain shrinkage.

The scientists who conducted the study to conclude this felt that the treatment of the disease could be revolutionized by these findings as the effect was so significant.

People with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), a kind of memory loss and forgetfulness and Alzheimer's suffer from brain shrinkage or atrophy. It occurs in them naturally.

About 168 people were taken to conduct a trial by scientists at the University of Oxford and they observed that three vitamin B high doses taken daily led to a 53 per cent reduction in brain shrinkage associated with dementia.

Scientists said that the results can lead to a strong debate whether the doses of this vitamin should be given to everyone who has MCI.

Professor David Smith, a pharmacologist who co-authored the study, said, "The results were immensely promising. It is a very simple solution: you give someone some vitamins and you protect the brain."
