No change in smoking rate in US

smokingHealth officials have stated that smoking rates in the US continue to be what they were. Even now one in five adults smokes regularly.

In 2009, 21 per cent of U.S. adults were smokers and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that this figure was the same in 2008.

There was a decline in the rate of smoking since 1960s but there has been no change in this rate since 2004.

There has been no improvement in teen smoking that is at nearly 20 percent either.

Due to shrewd marketing by cigarette companies and cuts in anti-tobacco campaigns, health officials believe they have lost momentum.

According to recent reports, in the US more than 46 million adults still smoke cigarettes.

CDC director Dr. Thomas Frieden, who calls smoking as the prime reason for preventable cause of death in the United States stated that it is tragic to see this. He also added that there are about 1,000 Americans die a daily.

Another report that stated that all children who live with someone who smokes have tobacco toxins that can be measured in their bodies disheartened experts.
