RIM acquirers popular app developer, DataViz

Blackberry RIMResearch In Motion (RIM), the makers of popular Blackberry series of smartphones has acquired the popular app developer, DataViz.

DataViz is one of the largest independent makers of Exchange and Office solutions under Microsoft licenses. The company is behind the popular Documents 2 Go application that works on mobile devices such as the Palm WebOS.

Some reports suggest that RIM might have paid around $50 million for the acquisition of the app developer. After the deal becomes official DataViz will focus on the development of RIM’s Blackberry smartphones.

The acquisition could benefit the company as BlackBerry is the smart phone of choice among enterprise customers and DataViz’s popular enterprise apps could complement RIM’s services.

This could also help the company catch up with other manufactures like Apple who enjoy a wider support of the developer community. The developer community has actively participated in apps for devices like iOS or Android platform.

Both the companies have not made any comments on the deal and moer details are expected to be announced later.
