Experts have stated that in UK a very few cancer patients are getting state-of-the-art radiotherapy care.
According to the Cancer Research UK, CRUK, about seven per cent people have an access to a new type of radiotherapy and the percentage of people getting this care in Europe is 20.
CRUK experts informed that if people wanted cancer care here then they had to depend on the conventional kinds and if they wanted the new treatment then they had to travel abroad.
It was added that plans to improve care was in the pipeline.
Harpal Kumar CRUK chief executive stated, “There are vital areas that need to be addressed to help deliver the best treatment for patients.”
From 2000 to 2009 in the UK the number of people receiving radiotherapy tripled and there was a rise of 40 per cent in the number of radiographers from 2000 and 2006.
According to CRUK estimates, in England only 38 per cent of cancer patients are getting radiotherapy but research states that the benefits might be reaching to about 50 per cent people.
The charity informed that many among people who were receiving radiotherapy had to suffer long waiting times that were unacceptable before receiving their treatment.
It was also added that due to a lack of awareness among people about radiotherapy's importance, the treatment options were getting affected.
