RCMP threatens to revoke funding

RCMP threatens to revoke fundingA thinly veiled threat to revoke funding of a university program was issued by the RCMP, the head of the criminology school at Simon Fraser University stated. And this happened because of his criticism of the Robert Pickton investigation.

According to the RCMP brass, the intention of the email was not as stated but questions were being raised by the way it was written.

RCMP deputy commissioner Gary Bass said in an email to SFU's Robert Gordon said, "I would like to suggest that you be much more careful in speaking on issues where you have no direct personal knowledge or where you may not be getting accurate information fed to you."

The media has quoted Gordon for calling the national police force arrogant and criticizing the RCMP investigation.

Bass stated that the ongoing bias you display against the RCMP in articles such as this have caused many to ask why we would want to continue to be in that partnership.

An agreement that sees the RCMP give SFU $4 million over five years was being referred to by him and this agreement was to cover the cost of two research chairs.
