A public warning was issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) about a specific lot of Lafleur-brand Original hot dogs that they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The product carries an expiry date of October 22.
In areas like Montreal, Laval, Lanaudière, Laurentides, Montérégie five cases of this product were distributed only in Quebec.
Richard Vigneault, a spokesperson for the manufacturer, Olymel L. P. of Boucherville, a Montreal suburb, said that about 120 packages of the hot dogs have been recalled and the weight of each packet is 450 grams.
It was stated, “There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.”
It was also added that food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not smell or seem spoiled. But listeriosis, a food-borne illness, can be caused by consumption of food contaminated with these bacteria.
High fever, neck stiffness, severe headache, and nausea can be caused by listeriosis.
