Wagga Base Hospital’s plight has finally been made public after federal Health Minister, Nicola Roxon, was asked about how Hobart Hospital has been promised $100 million simply because independent Andrew Wilkie represents the area.
Tamworth Base Hospital has taken over Wagga as well and the reason being cited is that independent Tony Windsor is on the chair of that area.
Roxon was asked if an independent MP was needed by Wagga needed for receiving hospital funding and she was also asked how Hobart had jumped the queue.
On various occasions, Wagga Base Hospital has featured in the national media in the last month and political commentators have stated what benefits can be brought in by marginal seats at election time.
According to the chairman of the Wagga Base Hospital medical staff council, Dr Richard Harrison, the time to capitalise is now.
He said, "It is good news if Nicola Roxon is under pressure from the national media and Wagga is on the radar as a worthy development.”
He also added that capitalization was needed soon and there might be opportunities that could secure funding.
