Medical registrations delays affecting Qld

Medical registrations delays affecting QldThe national medical registration boards has been contacted by the Queensland Health (QH) director-general Mick Reid regarding the delays in processing new applications.

Reid expressed support for the changeover to national registration for health workers.

It was stated by him that to process applications from overseas-trained nurses and doctors in particular it was being taken longer.

He added, "They have introduced a set of delays which we haven't experienced before.”

He stated that as compared to any other state in OZ Queensland had the fastest growth rate and nurses and doctors and allied health workers suffer the most here as they are being employed the most here.

He added, "It is critically important that we have the best streamline processes in place because public safety could be compromised as a result of the delays.”

He said that Queensland was affected the most when delays in processing took place apart from the bureaucratic red tape.

There have been various problems that the agency which came into operation on July 1 this year is facing and delays in the registration of doctors, nurses and other health professionals is a major problem.
