It has been stated by Australian scientists that Alzheimer's disease could be caused by brain rust.
It was stated that among people who were above 60 years of age, 10 per cent were afflicted by an imbalance in the metals needed for healthy brain function has been found at the root of the degenerative disease.
The imbalance to the brain's improper and related processing of zinc and iron has been traced by University of Melbourne Professor of Pathology Ashley Bush and his research colleagues.
Prof Bush said, “The brain in Alzheimer's disease is a catastrophe, and it is very hard to pinpoint what went wrong first.”
When asked that whether Alzheimer's could be caused by rust in brain?
Prof Bush said, "In a chemical sense, you can say this."
It was stated that abnormal combustion of oxygen with iron was taking place in the brain and that's the kind of chemistry that is going on in the brain.
He also stated that very high concentrations of metals were present in the brain.
It was added that these findings could lead to developing treatments that could halt the damage.
