South Korean electronics giant, Samsung has announced the launch of its much anticipated computer tablet named, Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 at the ongoing IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin.
The Galaxy Tab GT-P1000, powered by Google's Android Froyo 2.2 operating system, features a 7-inch TFT LCD touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024x600 WSVGA pixels. The device is capable of full HD videos playback and also offers Readers Hub app for eBook features.
Samsung expects the device to compete with the popular iPad tablet from Apple. The device features similar hardware found in the Galaxy S GT-i9000 touchscreen smartphone. The users will be able to download apps from Android Market and Samsung Apps.
The device is powered by .0GHz Cortex A8 Humming Bird application CPU with PowerVR SGX540 GPU and has 512MB RAM. It will come in 16GB and 32GB versions and support expandable memory of upto 32GB through a memory card.
It has quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks and tri-band 3G (HSUPA 5.76Mbps, HSDPA 7.2Mbps) networks along with support for Wi-Fi (802.11n) fro faster browsing and Bluetooth 3.0 for connecting to other devices. The company also offers interactive onscreen keyboard input app called Swype and ThinkFree Suite for MS Office Documents.
The device has two cameras; a 1.3megapixel front camera and a 3 megapixel camera at the rear with auto focus. It also comes enabled with video calling through Android. The Gyroscope sensor and Accelerometer sensors along with Geo-Magnetic sensor significantly enhances the gaming experience on the tablet.
The Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 will be available in Europe in two weeks and in US, Korea and other Asian markets in the coming months. The company has not disclosed the pricing details of the tablet yet.
