At MMM 3-D heart mapping facility introduced

3-D-imaging-systemAt the Madras Medical Mission, for the successful treatment of Arrhythmia a state-of-the-art 3-D imaging system has been introduced.

Ulhas M Pandurangi, senior consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist, MMM said, to help cardiologists understand the anatomy of interior parts of the heart and what leads to heart ailments, the system has been procured at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore and is one of the most advanced technologies.

He added that the benefit of this system is that apart from giving an electrical picture of the heart it also gives an anatomical picture and so is better than the conventional therapy.

The heart beats more or less than its normal pace in Arrhythmia. The normal rate is 60-90 beats but when the beats are 120 or more or if they are less than 50 then the condition of Arrhythmia is reflected.

The problem of an irregular beat will be suffered by about 30 per cent of the heart patients who have reduced pumping.

Dr Ulhas said, “There are at least 10 centres in Tamil Nadu which are doing the therapies and it is high time that ablation therapy be included under the scheme.”
