A temporary ban has been obtained by Sony to stop all the Australian distributors from selling PlayStation 3 hack chip. Gamers could play homemade and pirated games on their console with the help of PS3Jailbreak "dongle".
Under the terms of ban, Mod Supplier, Quantronics and OzModChips can no more distribute, import or sell the device.
In order to obtain a permanent ban, Sony can make further proceedings until August 31 but if it fails to do that, distributors can again sell the chips from September 1. The firms have refused to say anything about the proceedings of the case.
Sony has also got the permission from the court that it can control all the dongles it possesses. Moreover, the electronic giant is also allowed to conduct tests on the devices, including "destructive analysis".
It is very easy for the users to save games on the hard drive of their consoles with the help of software available in PS3Jailbreak. This software is the first product which is compromising with the security of PS3.
Sony came into doubt when OzModChips first time posted videos of the device online in early August.
However, at that time distributors said that dongle changes a retail unit into a dev unit. “Dev mode means it will run any - even unsigned – code”, said a Spokesperson for Console Pro.
