Research has found that walking can make you smarter. It was known that it makes you fitter but now comes an advantage along with it.
Researchers also added that walking briskly was also not needed; rather a 40-minute stroll at your own pace at least three times a week could do wonders to your brains making you brighter.
Walking had a positive impact on intelligence, research from the U. S. revealed.
Connections between the brain’s circuits were enhanced by moderate walking, scientists stated, adding that aging could also be combated by a drop in brain function linked to ageing reasoning tasks were better performed by moderate walkers.
It was found by psychologists at Illinois University by studying brain scans that among nearly 100 self-confessed couch potatoes cognitive function levels improved dramatically after a year in which they walked a few times a week, as compared to people who did only stretching exercises.
Professor Art Kramer, who led the study, said, “Previous studies have found that exercise can enhance the function of specific brain structures. But this latest study shows that even moderate exercise also improves the co-ordination of important brain networks.”
