Thousands of employees of London Underground have decided to start their first strike in a series of 24 hours of strikes on 6th of September over 800 job cuts by the company.
The staff association has said next strike plans will be decided after the first strike on a monthly basis. The union has warned to carry on the strikes until the London Underground withdraws its plans to reduce the ticket office opening hours. On the other hand, the London Underground has said that there would not be any compulsory redundancy.
According to the union, at least 10,000 members will participate in the industrial strike action. The engineering and maintenance staff will join the 24 hours strike action on 6th of September, 3rd October, 2nd November and on 28th of November.
Other workers like signalers, tube drivers and station staff will also join the strike for 124 hours on the same dates. But the general secretary of the firm, Bob Crow has said the demands were unacceptable and it would undermine the services and safety of the passengers.
