Flu has reached its record levels for 2010

Swine-flu-AustraliaRecently a report declares that seasonal flu and swine flu has reached their record levels for the year 2010.

Most recent figures stated by National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS) reveals that both seasonal and swine flu have hit the season and reached their highest levels in many states.

The most affected areas of the country are Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland and the ACT where Notifications of laboratory confirmed influenza continue to increase.

During this period there were 491 cases of laboratory confirmed influenza comprises of both seasonal and swine flu across the country.

So far in 2010, two deaths have been reported with swine flu in the month of May and July in Western Australia.

Dr Alan Hampson, the chair person of the Influenza Specialist Group (ISG) said that the groups at risk still have the opportunity to get them vaccinated.

He also said that many people under the age group of 65 and people who are at risk did not understand that simple vaccination can protect them from this deadly disease.
