Promotion of moderate Islam on social networking site

Islamist-Social-NetworksAn official confirms that the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt's influential Islamist opposition movement has announced to launch their own social networking site in the coming month for the promotion of moderate Islam.

Politburo member Mohammed Mursi said that Brotherhood's headquarter at Cairo has already created Ikhwanbook. com to support Islam and clarify the position of Muslims.

He mentioned that the website is on trail basis and will be launched in the next month after completing the pending technical work on it. As of now it has attracted 5000 members.

He also said that it is an open website for everyone but will not allow forming any indecent or offensive groups on it.

The Brotherhood being the largest Islamist opposition movement in the Muslim world controls a fifth of seats in the country's parliament through independents although there is ban on religious parties. The group was formed in Egypt in 1928.

The members of this movement face continuous detainments on the charges of possessing literature belongings to a banned organization. Members support state as an Islamist state achieved through peaceful means.

Mursi also said that Technology has no restrictions it is open for everyone and we use internet to clarify who we are and what we want and for easy communication between the people.

The other websites launched by the group are one online Brotherhood encyclopedia modeled on Wikipedia and other website copied from user-based sites such as YouTube.

Abdel-Moneim Mahmud, a journalist associated with reformists in the Brotherhood said that it is not similar to Facebook; it is limited to some groups only.

However the website is being criticized for its limited access.
