Rudisha breaks 800m world record

David RudishaDavid Rudisha, hailing from the African nation of Kenya, made a new world record on Sunday over 800 metres at the ISTAF World Challenge in Berlin.

The 21-year-old Rudisha, who is a former junior world champion, completed his 800 metres feat in 1 minute and 41.09 seconds, in the process overtaking the previous best milestone of 13 years set by Wilson Kipketer from the nation of Denmark, who had completed a similar feat within two hundredths of a second.

The former best by Rudisha was 1 minute and 41.51 seconds, wherein he had headed a Kenyan sweep of the podium places, followed by Boaz Lalang (1 minute and 44.34 seconds) and Abraham Kiplagat (1 minute and 44.49 seconds).

Caster Semenya from the nation of South Africa, on the other hand achieved a very easy victory in the women’s 800m event, running at the same Olympic Stadium track which had won her the world title a year back.

The 19 year old athlete completed her race in posted 1 minute and 59.90 seconds, breaking the two-minute barrier in her third race since she returned to the competition in July after passing the gender tests by the international athletics federation IAAF.
