Google and Skype might ban the messaging services in India, unless the firm goes by the norms of government security regulations. Reuters states that the government has been keeping an eye on Google's messaging service and Skype's internet telephony service for over a year.
Indian security agencies claim that Islamic terrorists and insurgents are making use of satellite phones, messenger services and Internet telephony implant actions of terrorism on Indian soil. The government states that the Pakistan-based terrorists employ these services to plan attacks in Mumbai 2008 that claimed lives of 166 people.
In regard of the same events Indian security agencies has given deadline to RIM of 31 August to provide security services with unencrypted messages sent from BlackBerry devices, might have to face a ban in the nation.
An official from government stated: “Wherever there is a concern on grounds of national security the government will want access and every country has a right to lawful interference.”
