NokiaLeading handset maker, Nokia will launch its “Listings service in India. Nokia Listings, developed by Nokia Beta Labs, is to connect buyers and sellers through simple digital platform.

The Listings offers information on point of sale and purchase, helps users find or post a job and also provide local services.

The blog of the Nokia Beta Labs expressed that the company has noticed that about 60 percent of the hiring and consumer-to-consumer transactions in emerging markets happen through word-of-mouth or through middlemen.

The company aims to offer a digital marketplace to the users of affordable handsets like Series 40 and it will work even without a GPRS connection. The users will be able to buy or sell objects, look for jobs, find services like auto repairs, driver services, plumbers, etc with GPRS or SMS on their phones.

The service is only launched in India and the users do not have to register for accessing it. A java code is also prepared to allow users to access the listings. The code will work on most Java enables phones and the company has also developed it for S40 handsets.

The app is also geo coded which means that it will offer local content so that the users are able to locate the services nearest to their places. Nokia is testing the app on a limited content set and hopes to extend it throughout the country.
