Prime Minister, Julia Gillard made an announcement for senior citizens that they can earn extra up to $6500 in a year by working part-time without losing their current pension.
It is expected that if Labor is re-elected then this new alteration will benefit 25000 part-time pensioners by an average of $100 a fortnight.
The new law will also benefit "Mature-age" workers to earn $ 4000 to improve their employment skills.
The plan will allow the pensioners to spread their income of $6500 earned in one month or one day from any seasonal work around one year.
The scheme will commence from July next year, it is estimated that change would cost $94 million over four years.
In addition to the declaration of this plan in Brisbane, Ms Gillard also announced the creation of age discrimination commissioner.
Families Minister Jenny Macklin says that she is aware of the discrimination suffered by older Australians in their daily lives. She also said that there will be an impartial age discrimination commissioner who will look after the rights of older Australians in the community and in the workplace. This person will held responsible for handling complaints under the Age Discrimination Act.
